Kelly’s Directory 1881 tells us that at 3 Southey Road was Mrs Fanny Martin, Bible Depot.

Expanding on the info taken from Kelly’s Directory and looking at the Census we find out a little more…
Well actually we don’t. Mrs Martin is a bit of a mystery as despite being listed at number 3 St Ann’s Road (the property of Mr Henry Cornelius) in Kelly’s directory 1881 there is no sign of her on the Census of 1871, 1871, 1881 or 1901. It is also rather unclear as to what a ‘Bible Depot’ was, perhaps it was a store selling religious items.
Was it that she lived in or traded from the small annexe on the side of the property that is still visible? See the picture below…
