Expanding on the info taken from Kelly’s Directory and looking at the Census we find out a little more…

The 1871 census shows that ‘Mrs Harriet’ is actually called Harriet White, seen below living with her son, daughter in–law, a granddaughter and a lodger.  Looking at the 1881 Census Mrs White’s family has moved out, as has the lodger. It appears that Mrs White; still a Midwife and now quite elderly is letting her rooms out to a variety of lodgers. It is unclear as to why Mrs White’s place of birth differs from one census to the other.  Mrs Harriet, or Mrs White more accurately is also a good example of Kelly’s Directory printing a mistake.
