Number 30 Holland Street 1881 – George Richard Worcester, Collar Dresser

Please note Caldwell Street was called Holland Street in 1881 – see here.

Kelly’s Directory 1881 tells us that at 30 Holland street lived George Richard Worcester, a collar dresser (this was someone that attached collars to shirts)

Expanding on the info taken from Kelly’s Directory and looking at the Census we find out a little more…

Well actually we don’t. The census records I have for this part of the street in 1881 are badly damaged and so I am unable to delve any further with Mr Worcester. I have looked at the 1871 and 1891 Census, both of which show a different set of people living at number 30. Mr Worcester will remain a mystery.

My Ancestors – we’re living at no 30 from before 1900 to the census 1911, Sophia Stone is listed as a laundry shop manageress – and working at home, so I wonder if no 30 became a laundry. Do you have any images or further information?
