Expanding on the info taken from Kelly’s Directory and looking at the Census we find out a little more…

Mr Brown was one of a number of surgeons living on Brixton Road (The MRCS initials stand for Member of the Royal College of Surgeons). The 1881 Census shows him living at this property in a rather unusual setup, he is listed as being a Widower however from what I can make out he has a new wife Ida, aged 16, only three years older than his daughter. Whether there’s more to this than meets the eye or Mr Brown simply liked them young we’ll never know as Mr Brown is gone by the 1891 Census.
